چکیده

Canberra Report The Leadership Colloquium was organised as part of the development of the Carrick Institute's Leadership for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Program. After the first round of proposals earlier in 2006 it was clear that there would be value in undertaking work to support understandings of 'leadership' to underpin the program. In response, three events were planned to provide a set of activities which will culminate in a forum for those interested in applying under the Leadership Program in 2007. The Colloquium, the first of the events was designed to provide an opportunity for university leaders to contribute to the understanding of effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education. There were five focus questions to be addressed throughout the Colloquium. These were: ƒ What does effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education entail? ƒ What is understood by effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education? ƒ How can effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education be developed and supported? ƒ How are different constructs of effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education reflected in structures, systems and policies? ƒ How is effective leadership for learning and teaching in Australian higher education conceptualised in various academic roles? Participants received two papers as pre-reading. These well-researched papers were prepared to enrich the discussion at the Colloquium-one of these papers (authored by Professors Don Anderson and Dick Johnson) synthesized the themes and literature used by applicants in the 2006 Leadership for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Program; the other (authored by Professor Stephen Marshall) examined
